The Great Engagement Shoot Post Wrap Up

Friday, April 30th, 2010

So Dennis and I got downtown pretty early on Wednesday, so we decided to walk around and check out the spots down Queen Street West.  We found Poutini, which by the way, served pretty good Poutine.  There were Photographers littered down the street checking the area out for various places to shoot.  While we were waiting we decided to take a nap in the car till 5 pm hit.  And then it was sign in time.

The Stephen Bulger Art Gallery was already filled with photographers and a lot of their gear.  We went to get a glass of water, and funny, but I ran into my elementary school classmate.  Crazy.

This area on Queen Street was so artsy, which was very different from what I’m used to.  I swear I felt like I was in the movies or something.

Once 5:30 pm hit we were in the small auditorium waiting to be paired up and hear the rules.  We were matched with Daryl Banks from Sticking with You.  It was 5:48 and we had 1 hour to get to our photo shoot area, take a few pictures, and the have him touchup and hand in the picture on a USB key back at the art gallery.

We walked  a few blocks and got to the Post Office that Daryl scouted earlier.  He had a vision of taking this pic while we were on the fire escape.  By the way, we were super nervous.  We had never done this before and had no idea what to expect.  It was pretty awkward at first.  But I think it solidified that we definitely wanted to get Engagement photos done.  It’ll give us a good chance to get to know our photographer (whichever one we choose).

Anyway, here is the photo.  I emailed Daryl the other day and he mentioned he’d send me a few more today or something.  Eeeekkks.  So excited.

Oh yes, we didn’t win.  But it was a great experience.  Check out http://www.theweddingco.com/thedailynews/ for all the other photos.

The Great Engagement Shoot Challenge

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

It’s today.

20 Photograpers, 20 Couples, 1 Hour & 1 Winner

A random on-site draw will match each of 20 lucky couples with a professional wedding photographer. The 20 teams will have 1 hour to rise to the challenge and create the best engagement photo between the Stephen Bulger Gallery and the Drake Hotel on Queen Street West. The 20 photographs will be judged and the winning team announced that same night over cocktails and hors d’oeuvres.

Wish us luck.  Hope the photographer doesn’t hate working with us and vice versa.   Or maybe we’ll even mesh sooo well that we’ll have another photographer to choose from.

On another note, well the same subject actually…  We’re meeting with Jon Rennie today (who I have mentioned is one of the photographers we’re looking into).

It’s going to be a busy week.

Cutting of the Cupcake

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

Okay, so our friends Josie and Tom came by this weekend, and brought us over samples of the cupcakes for our wedding.  So delicious!

I think we know what we want….

Alternating Chocolate and Vanilla layers with white chocolate buttercream icing and black cupcake wrappers.  The top layer will be a round fondant cake.  Not sure what sort of detail will be on it, but Dennis and I are going for the minimalistic look (like usual).  Dennis really liked the sprinkles, like the one in the cupcake picture above.

Anyway, I don’t think I had mentioned this, but my dad is making the cupcake tower for us.  Here is a drawing I have mocked up (Dennis thought this was a picture of the actual tower my dad was making. lol. I love photoshop).  However, I think we’re going to need 4 cupcake tiers, but I’m worried the cake won’t be secure on the top layer.  I’m sure my dad will figure something out though.

As you can see, our accent damask wallpaper will be covering the top of each tier.  Eeee… I can’t wait till I see the finished product!

Wedding Shoes

Thursday, April 15th, 2010

So they are in!  I wanted to go with aqua/blue/oasis colour shoes, but then I decided that shoes that I could probably where again is a much better choice.  Anyway, I fell in love with these:

And they finally came in today.  Well I bought them on Sunday, so it was only a few days.  So since the Canadian Dollar is above the American Green Back, I got a really great deal.  Crappy part is that we had to pay duty on them.  Great part about that is that I was at work when Dennis answered the door. :P

Update:  So they are a little small.  I bought another pair in a half size bigger, so I’ll sell the other pair if they fit better.
